Joe (1970) was selected for auditions in New York by two recent Catholic University graduates. Chris Sarandon was not selected even though he previously studied acting. His wife Susan had a prominent role. That part was played by Susan Compton who was the daughter of ad executive Bill Compton (Dennis Patrick). Dad Bill, Susan's drug dealer partner, is killed in the film. Joe (Peter Boyle) is a bigot, who works on an assembly line, then meets Joe (Sarandon). After more than fifteen years, Sarandon was finally able to actively advocate for Annie in Bull Durham (1988), flying herself between Rome to Los Angeles at her expense. "It was an incredible script... It did dispel a lot of mythsand challenged American notions of what success is," she stated. "I attended the film studio along together with Kevin Costner and shook hands with his gorgeous assistants, before returning to the plane. The romance she had with Bull Durham (1988)) supporting actor, Tim Robbins, had resulted in two sons by the year 1992, and put Sarandon in the position of leaving her domestic paradise only to accept roles that challenged her.
